Rich Skrenta made this virus originally as a joke. He was 15 years old when he made the virus. Elk Cloner virus was written around 1982 in Mount. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Skrenta would give the infected floppy disks to his friends and eventually they learned not to take mysterious disks from him.
